Magipup Festival 12-20 October 2013

Our October school holidays MAGIPUP FESTIVAL 12 – 20 OCTOBER 2013 is just around the corner… We have an exciting programme of shows and workshops lined up for you, to keep the whole family entertained and creative – rain or shine throughout the holidays….Don’t miss it.

All the events up to Christmas are on the website and can be booked online – “Thanks for a straight forward online booking system. I had no problem with it”, says Alison Spurway.

Miriam Lambert Puppeteer is with us all the way from Ireland, Sat 12 – Mon 14 Oct with GOLDILOCKS AND THE THREE BEARS and the GINGERBREADMAN. Both are such delightful shows. Watch out for her signature characters Pick and Boo, who will have you laughing with their antics.

All our events on Tues 15 Oct are taking place at the Mackintosh Church. If you haven’t seen the inside of the Mackintosh Church it is well worth a visit.

Don’t miss the drop-in workshops on Mon 14 & Fri 18 Oct and the magic shows and workshops Wed 16 & Thur 17 Oct. The cafe will be open for children’s lunch boxes and a warming bowl of soup on these days. So why not make a day of it and see a show in the afternoon.

We finish the week with the lovely Clive Chandler of Tip Top Puppets, his quick wit and laid back style never fails to entertain children and adults alike.

New Theatre News

newtheatre350THE DEPOT: As many of you will know our little theatre plays to many full houses, so our charity has decided to convert our existing store areas on site into a new studio space called The Depotwhich will be used for theatre, dance, mime, TV, film recording and community use.

To achieve this we have a set up a campaign to raise projected costs of £300,000 and we are delighted to announce that Creative Scotland in Dec 2012 awarded us £100,000 towards the project from their small capital grant fund.CS_Lottery_HI_bwsmall

We are now working towards raising the remaining partnership funds. Click on the architect’s plans below to view how the theatre will look in the future.

Scottish Mask & Puppet Centre News – Comedy Festival

FUNtastic 150 x 149The rest of our Spring 2013 Season of Puppets, Magic, Shows and Workshops for all the family at the Scottish Mask And Puppet Centre kicks of this weekend with events for the Glasgow International Comedy Festival. Try your hand at balloon modelling in our Laughology workshop guaranteed to get you laughing on Sat 16 Mar 2013 at 10.00am or our magic show The Big Magic Wand with Alex the Magician on Sat 16 Mar at 2.00pm. Don’t miss our Funny Puppets Family Workshop at 3.00pm on Sun 17 Mar and we have an extra show, not previously advertised of theWitch the Wizard & Little Red Riding Hood by Talking Heads Puppets at12.00noon on Sun 17 Mar.

On Wednesday 20Mar 2013 at 7.30pm we have a special fundraiser evening of Magic and Comedy called Magical Mayhem for 12+yrs and definitely mums, dads and just adults too for the Centre and our plans for a new theatre on site. We are delighted to announce we raised £100,000 from Creative Scotland last December from their Small Capital Grant Fund towards the new theatre and are now busy trying to put the rest of the required funds in place. So we’d really love it if you can come along in support and you can see the plans at the same time and enjoy a good laugh into the bargain.

Get To Know The Scottish Mask And Puppet Centre (Video)

2012 Doors Open Day

Punch and Judy Puppet colour-in kits will be available for purchase in the cafe to take away or the children can make a start at the workshop table.

There was once a poor shoemaker, who worked very hard, but still he could not earn enough to live upon. All he had in the world was gone. He had just enough leather to make one last pair of shoes…but help comes in an unexpected way! Puppetry, object theatre and original live music. The story is set in a shoemaker’s shop and is told in a playful way with gentle audience participation. Banyan, are always a delight to watch. Don’t miss this show.

Pulcinella By Irene Vecchia From Italy

Are you looking for things to do with the children over the summer? Planning a birthday party?

Come and join us on Sunday, July 29th for a very special puppet show: Pulcinella will be visiting – all the way from Italy.
This comic and fast moving mime and puppet show, with a universal language, understandable to one and all, young and old and young at heart, is not to be missed. The puppeteer – Irene Vecchia – is the student of Bruno Leone who rescued Pulcinella from obscurity 30 years ago.

The Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre are delighted that Mr Punch will be performing on the main lawn of the Botanic Gardens as part of a series of events being held nationwide with the Big Grin www.thebiggrin350.com

If it rains you will find him in the South Wing of Kibble Palace-numbers limited to 60 at a time. So please come and join in Mr Punch’s 350th Birthday celebrations, with a tradition that stretches back more than 300 years… he was first seen as a glove puppet in Covent Garden in 1662 by Samuel Pepys.

Professor Clive Chandler is a member of the highly esteemed Punch and Judy College of Professors and has performed in many countries, including France, Italy, Germany, Croatia, Slovakia, and Hungary and is recognised as one of England’s leading performers of Punch & Judy.

We hope to see you in recreating a few childhood memories and introducing some new ones.
