The Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre are delighted that Mr Punch will be performing on the main lawn of the Botanic Gardens as part of a series of events being held nationwide with the Big Grin www.thebiggrin350.com

If it rains you will find him in the South Wing of Kibble Palace-numbers limited to 60 at a time. So please come and join in Mr Punch’s 350th Birthday celebrations, with a tradition that stretches back more than 300 years… he was first seen as a glove puppet in Covent Garden in 1662 by Samuel Pepys.

Professor Clive Chandler is a member of the highly esteemed Punch and Judy College of Professors and has performed in many countries, including France, Italy, Germany, Croatia, Slovakia, and Hungary and is recognised as one of England’s leading performers of Punch & Judy.

We hope to see you in recreating a few childhood memories and introducing some new ones.

A puppet show for the young….. and the young at heart….! Mr Punch is 350 years old this year and the Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre is celebrating his birthday in style, so Roll up! Roll up! and come and see the crocodile, the sausages and Old Mr Punch up to his usual tricks. The show will also feature a variety of marionettes, some juggling and the jolly sound of the mechanical organ as well as the usual cast of characters and the authentic voice of Mr Punch. Plus a surprise visit from Dog Toby and Sally the Seagull! Professor Clive Chandler, presents this age-old drama in the context of today and demonstrates the strength of a living tradition that stretches back more than 300 years. Duration: 50 mins

With your help, he might just get what he wants… A fun and colourful tabletop show with French keywords carefully scattered throughout, this is a gentle story for all budding young French speakers and Lapin lovers. ‘Children enjoy following lapin (who only speaks French) and his friends (who speak both French and English) in their adventure, often without realising they have just learnt something new’.
