Preserving Puppetry: The Scottish Mask & Puppet Centre
Preserving Puppetry: The Scottish Mask & Puppet Centre, Glasgow UK with Dr Malcolm Yates Knight. Created by students of the SAE Institute, Glasgow (2017). A unique insight into the work of SMPC.
Here at SMPC our building-based Art Centre is made up of the following elements: an annual public programme of shows, workshops and events; a museum and documentation centre for collections and archives; and an education unit including research library and audio-visual collection. We are a national centre of excellence and a home for all those seeking that creative spark of freedom which lies deep inside every person; “Freedom Come All Ye”. The creative nucleus of our Centre is our theatre, museum, education unit and related production and design workshops. Our approach is ‘hands-on’ and our work and training initiatives are applied by ‘learning through doing’ from craft to performance.
We offer a regular programme of weekend shows, public workshops and children’s birthday parties. We also specialise in cultural animation projects, professional training, international residencies, touring exhibitions, mask work, publications and book sales.
