The ninth issue of Puppet Notebook magazine is a special themed edition dedicated to Masks: Ancient and Modern, guest edited by Dr. Malcolm Knight of Scottish Mask & Puppet Centre. The articles represent some major contributions from contemporary practitioners who have become life-long advocates of mask theatre and mask training for actors. Margaret Coldiron reviews an AHRC research project on "The Body and Mask in Ancient Theatre Space"; Adriano Iurissevich from Venezia INScena describes the importance of Menander and the Masks of Lipari; Malcolm Knight writes on "Recreating Ancient Masks";professional mask-maker, Ninian Kinnier-Wilson, is interviewed on his approaches to mask-making; David Griffiths profiles his project to create a new commedia mask set; Mike Chase summarises his trajectory of work from the Mask Studio to the new Glasshouse Mask Centre in Stroud and flags up the forthcoming UK International Mask Festival 19-29 October 07; Bob Frith, Artistic Director of Horse & Bamboo, contributes a major piece entitled "Mask Theatre; Emily Gray, Artistic Director of Trestle Theatre writes about the latest developments within her company; and Tony Davies of Trading Faces features their latest production of "Alice" and their new publication "Masks in Action".
